“Language & Culture Expert”: English
Language & Cultural Exploration is central to what we do at Grow Abroad. Our students have been studying English for years, and are competent readers, writers, and communicators in English. What makes the Grow Abroad summer intensive immersion program different? Our students have come to the United States to discover how its people live their daily lives, to participate in the culture of an American camp and family life. In addition to being immersed in an English-speaking environment with their host families, students participate in daily language sessions at camp. These sessions are focused on building confidence in speaking, conversation skills and comprehension. Our program is designed to help the student discover the beauty of the English language and the uniqueness of the culture of the United States. The goal is to strengthen the already strong connections through a learning process designed to enhance critical and creative thinking. What you will not find here are the usual fill-in-the-blank exercises, that promote rote learning away from any cultural context. Our course is designed with interactive and discovery-based tasks which compel students to interact with the culture and use the language as it is used by native speakers.

“Language & Culture Expert”: Foreign Language
On a rolling basis throughout our summer of programming, we will feature weekly Language/Country Cultural Adventures, representing different countries, according to the language proficiencies of our hired cultural representatives.
As staff, you will mix beginner's language lessons infused with elements of the history and culture of their country, such as:
showing photos/movies, cooking cultural food, interactive experiences with current international students and/or pen pal/skype sessions with our past international students, during which they can practice their new language skills, ask questions, among other fun activities... all making it like a "trip" to this foreign country.
You can expect a lot of fun, hands-on experiential learning. Students should be able to go home with a beginner's grasp of their selected language, equipped with greetings, navigational questions, and relevant vocabulary, and a wealth of cultural knowledge on various regions of their selected country. As if they'd spent their summer there!

Qualified applicants must:
  • Able to work as a collaborative member of a team, AND confident leading groups of students solo.
  • Be able to follow a lesson plan outline and modify to meet students’ needs
  • Have experience working with students in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Have classroom management experience, confidence and proven leadership in behavioral and group-dynamics
  • Have a passion for language and culture!

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Have experience teaching a foreign language, OR
  • Have experience in summer camps
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Foreign Language, or a related field, or working towards a degree.
